Story[]
Knuckles and the Chaotix Crew arrive on Flickies' Island on a search mission, with the dual aims of ensuring there are no signs of Robotnik and finding something they can use against him in the war. The group come across a cache of Knuckles Metallix but inadvertently trigger the Metallix' security protocols, leading to a fight breaking out. Knuckles notes that the Metallix are probably not properly charged as they seem much weaker than usual, with even Charmy being able to defeat one of the machines.
With the Metallix defeated, Knuckles tells everyone to burn the facility and remove all trace of the Metallix but Vector has a better idea- he suggests he and Porker Lewis use their combined technological intellect to reprogram the Metallix and download the Guardian Robot protocols into their system, effectively making them an army of additions to the Floating Island's Guardian Robot numbers. Knuckles is unsure if this is a good idea as Porker still shows signs of trauma following the time he spent as a hostage of the Brotherhood of Metallix but Vector dissuades his fears as he reminds Knuckles the Mark 3 Metallix happen to look like Porker's best friend and that Porker has nothing to fear from Knuckles' own image. The Chaotix Crew send the Metallix through Omni-Viewer to the Floating Island as Knuckles wonders aloud if Vector was suggesting he isn't intimidating!
Trivia[]
- This is the first appearance of the Metallix Mark 3 in Sonic the Comic Online in contemprary continuity. It had previously appeared in a flashback and pin-ups but had otherwise, up to this point, not been seen in over a hundred issues.
- Espio does not appear in this story, suggesting Vector is still having trouble getting him and Mighty to work as a unit, as previously referenced in Rage Inside the Machine.
- Despite being present throughout, Omni-Viewer does not have any dialogue at any point in this story.
Timeline[]
The previous Knuckles story was Skeletons in the Closet. He next appears in a major role in Tikal: Girl Wonder! but this is the current story under his own heading. Chaotix previously appeared in Hog Hunt and will reappear in Mouse Compatible, suggesting this story takes place between the two of those.
