Story[]

On board the Death Egg, Grimer has just put the finishing touches to his new plan. He shows Doctor Robotnik a hedgehog who is ready to infiltrate the Freedom Fighters, learn their secrets and destroy them all. In the Jungle Zone, Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails are ready to ambush a Trooper patrol carrying a group of captured animals. They are quickly backed up by Amy Rose, Johnny Lightfoot and Porker Lewis, who make short work of the Badniks. Tails happily releases the captives from their prison, but things take an odd turn when one of them (the hedgehog from earlier) introduces himself as Tonic, Sonic's long-lost brother! The team are left non-plussed, but Sonic insists he has no brother. Tonic wishes to join the Freedom Fighters but Sonic can't trust him. Tonic runs off crying into the woods and Tails volunteers to see if he's alright. However, behind the trees, Tonic is secretly phoning Robotnik to give an update. Tails jumps into attack, but Tonic's arm stretches and strangles the fox. With his identity compromised, Tonic assumes "her" true form - as Metamorphia.

Meanwhile, the others start to wonder who Tonic could be and Sonic quickly realises the truth. The gang rush in to save Tails from certain death and Metamorphia reveals her plan. She then turns on the gang by morphing into an orange monster. Johnny keeps her at bay with a staff to the face, but she changes again into sticky goo. Sonic gives her the runaround, twisting her and making her dizzy. She soon reverts back to her usual self but is at the mercy of Amy's bow. Instead of continuing to fight, Metamorphia leaps off a waterfall. Back on the Death Egg, Metamorphia states she changed into a fish to evade capture but Robotnik is furious with her failures. He then mocks her for adoring him, claiming everyone must adore him to avoid a doomed existence. Back in her transport, Metamorphia fantasises about killing Sonic and earning Robotnik's respect.

Trivia[]

  • This story was published during "Disaster", but features scenes which take place on the Death Egg, which was destroyed in that story. Unlike "Captain Plunder and his Sky Pirates" and "Knuckles vs The Cybernik", which also ran during that story arc, there is no caption clarifying that it takes place earlier in the timeline.
  • This isn't the first time Metamorphia has turned into a hedgehog to trick Sonic. The last time was as Cosmic in The Pretender.
  • The line "born at a young age" has become infamous for making no sense. As it turns out, it's Lew Stringer recycling a joke from his old comic Combat Colin.
  • This is Gary Andrew's last strip for STC and his only Sonic-related story.
  • Part one miscredits the lettering to Elitta Fell.

Timeline[]

The previous Sonic's World story was Enter the Cybernik. The next is The Seven Badniks.
