Contents[]

Strips[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Crisis in the Chemical Plant Zone is a 2-part story co-starring the Marxio Brothers by Nigel Kitching, Richard Elson and Tom Frame. The Control Centre receives an audio distress call which leads to Sonic and Tails paying a visit to the Chemical Plant Zone. There, they discover that the Zone has been bought by the Marxio Brothers and that something is scuppering the clean-up process. While investigating, Sonic is attacked by monsters made from Mega Mack that claim to know Sonic. Worse still, they're preparing to blow up the Zone and pollute the Emerald Hill Zone.

Tails[]

Fall of the Leaf is a 2-part story by Lew Stringer, Nigel Dobbyn and Elitta Fell. Tails is being framed for several crimes by an unknown imposter and Eric Bungalow is the latest victim of burglary. The fox protests his innocence but is captured for a promised reward. Instead of wriggling free, Tails vows to catch the real criminal and sets up a plot involving the "Golden Bike Frame" of the Steptoe Zone. The foe is ousted by the ruse as The Leaf, a thief masquerading as Tails.

Decap Attack[]

Chuck and the Cheese Factory is a 2-part Decap story by Kitching, Richard Rayner and Fell. Chuck D. Head is seen sneaking back into Castle Frank N. Stein after midnight clutching a package. As he opens it, Igor appears and discovers Chuck has become addicted to Slurp-a-Cheese. As the two fight, a golden ticket emerges from the bucket, meaning Chuck and Head have won a tour of the Slurp-a-Cheese Factory. The next day, George Curdle shows them around the factory and they meet the Slurp-a-Kins. Unfortunately, they've chosen the day where the workers finally revolt against their master and all runny cheeses...

Amy & Tekno[]

Earthbound is a story that directly links on from the Spaced Out adventure. Written by Stringer, with art from Roberto Corona and John M Burns and lettering by Frame, we learn that Amy Rose and Tekno the Canary have been given a spaceship by the Kaamdaarn but are lost on the way home. The pair stop off at Planet Earth for directions and meet the friendly Professor Cratermass but become involved in the maniacal ways of Colonel Granite.

Features[]

The Control Zone, hosted by Megadroid, welcomes old and new Boomers to the stories and features inside, as well as this issue's free gift and poster. There's also mention of a competition to win one of five bikes in Issue 115. Speedlines involves letters about the lack of letters from the north east of England (apparently due to them writing letters instead to then-Newcastle United manager Kenny Dalglish), the origins of Grimer and a "98-year old" fan who thinks Tails is "a puff". All letters and the pictures of a schoolboy Sonic and an Amy & Tekno team-up won the creators an Enamel Badge.

The Graphic Zone was renamed Metal Gurus, with Sonic, Tails, Amy and Doctor Robotnik getting robotic forms, including the Amy Badnik. Artists won a Sonic the Hedgehog watch for their troubles. The Next Issue page again informed readers of the bike competition and the other stories.

Staff[]

Trivia[]

  • Speedlines revealed that Nigel Kitching got his name for Grimer from 1920s character "Grimer" Wormtongue, who would appear in The Lord of the Rings as "Grima". A later error in the Issue 178 edition of the Data Zone would officially give Grimer that name.
