Mandrake roots are plants that grow in the Mandrake Swamp. Just touching it to Society Max's tongue is enough to turn him into a ferocious dinosaur. Unfortunately, the socialite appears to dislike the taste, making a request to Blockhead Bill that he put some dressing on one next time. It also seemed to get in his teeth, Max requiring a toothpick to remove the remnants of the root.
When Bill ran out of roots to feed his friend, the pair of them ventured into Mandrake Swamp to collect more. Before they could succeed, they were captured by Root and forced to carry out his plan. Despite this, Bill was able to procure at least three more roots to help Max fight Sonic the Hedgehog and the Chaotix Crew.
