Sega Channel - Ready Willing and Cable! is a special feature that appeared in Issue 84 of Sonic the Comic. Similar to entries in the defunct News Zone, the article is a preview and advertisment for the Sega Channel, a 24-hour subscription service for Sega video games.
The feature mentions that snippets of information was previously given in Issue 42 but has now seen a limited launch in the United Kingdom. Subscribers were supplied with a special adaptor that connects their incoming cable line to their own Mega Drive console. For a monthly fee, players were then able to play games, get Sega news and enter competitions. The games available to play were split into categories (Arcade, Sports, Racing, Family and Strategy), with each category updated every month. Subscribers could also sample games before they were in the shop. A message to parents states that Parental Control allows the selection of suitable games and regulates the amount of time spent playing. Although the service was only available in Essex and Kent, negotiations were under way for a further roll-out.
TV presenter Andi Peters appeared in half of the article's photos, posing with Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna in one and the cast of "Scratchy and Co." in another, the Sega Channel adaptor present in both.
