Guardian of the Ice Palace is a complete story starring Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails, written by Ed Reynolds, with art from Steve Saywood and lettering from Charles Ellis. On Christmas Eve, Sonic and Tails are visiting the Ice Palace of Mobius. Some explorers also came here but have gone missing, maybe due to the massive dragon roaming the place. Despite problems with swimming and said monster, Sonic finds the explorers, explaining they were hiding from Doctor Robotnik and his Trooper forces. Tails frees the dragon, letting back into the ocean and everyone gets to go home.
The main draw of this issue is the Ancient Relic Zone, a detailed look at some of the plots that didn't make it into the pages of Sonic the Comic Online. Pitches included a new line of stories for Tails, new villains and some ideas sprouting from before even Nigel Kitching had finished writing for the original comic. Some ideas remained in some form, such as The Syndicate.
Posters came in the form of a 3D Megadroid (Mike Corker), a Christmassy Big the Cat pulling the Freedom Fighters along in a sleigh (Adamis), Captain Plunder dressed as Father Christmas, with Simpson the Cat in tow (Stiv), the front cover of the cast Christmas carolling (Bakasam) and what looks like Eggman with a "dead" Sonic jack-in-a-box (Spark).
On the cover, Tikal holds a menorah - a reference to a Message Zone moderator called Tikal, who was Jewish.
