Story

Much to Sonic's immense displeasure, Porker Lewis has come to an important decision: he is quitting the Freedom Fighters. He has lost his nerve completely after being held hostage on the Miracle Planet for a month by the Brotherhood of Metallix. Sonic, in a fit of anger, becomes incredibly cruel and harsh, and ultimately storms out after the others stick up for the openly weeping Porker. The hedgehog's day begins to take a turn for the worst when Chaotix depart, having got wind that Nack the Weasel has escaped from prison and is heading for the Sandopolis Zone. Without warning, Sonic is suddenly blasted by a number of Troopers. Amy and Johnny arrive to investigate the noise, but are ordered to drop their weapons, under threat of Sonic being killed. Sonic comes around and tries to attack, but is slightly concussed and can't see straight. The Trooper guarding him has the upper hand, but Porker, inside the caravan, notices what's going on. He grabs some of the caravan's cables and places them in the trickle of water outside, which every Trooper is conveniently standing in, short-circuiting the robots into defeat. The next morning, Porker prepares to leave for the Floating Island in the bi-plane. Sonic struggles to apologise for calling Porker soft, but Porker says it's forgotten, acknowledging his weakness. Sonic tells Porker the Freedom Fighters wouldn't have him any other way, and they vow that they'll see each other again soon, before Porker leaves for his new life on the Floating Island.

Trivia

  • In his open letter to fans in the final issue of Sonic the Comic, Nigel Kitching stated that he was rather proud of this story, and that 'one of the things at the back of [his] mind was that [they] should show some of the consequences of constantly being at war with Robotnik. Every now and then [they] needed to have something happen that really affected the heroes.'
  • Kitching would later go on to say that Sonic only behaved so harshly towards Porker because he really didn't want him to leave. Sonic being who he is, however, doesn't really know how to say such things.
